A little bit about me.......
Pictured above are the beautiful hills of Nymboida....definitely one of my favourite spots to 'marry people', but I'm happy to travel and have performed ceremonies in many areas of NSW and elsewhere in Australia. Nymboida is the paradise that I've chosen to call home for the last 25 years and remain living happily with my husband, Dave. It's where I've raised my four daughters, built my dream house (with lots of help) and learned how wonderful life can be when you live in a great community.
I completed the neccessary components of the Certificate IV in Marriage Celebrancy in January 2006. Like many Celebrants, I had to wait for my registration until September 2008 when the Attorney Generals Department lifted the cap on celebrant registrations. In July 2011 I completed a funeral celebrants course.
I feel that much of what I've been doing for the past 35 years has been preparing me for my role as a celebrant. Having left school at an early age I attended the school of life and a large part of my education came through travel. I roamed and worked in many places in Australia and overseas in Europe, Africa and Asia. I'm a 'people person' and I honed my communication skills working, mixing and travelling with folk from different cultural and religious backgrounds across the socio-economic spectrum. I did return to formal study in the areas of childbirth education and contemporary music once I had settled in Northern NSW.
My involvement in amateur theatre and 10 years as a musician in a working band has given me the confidence and skills for the performance aspects of ceremony and I've always had a passion for language and creative writing.
During my 'baby years' I immersed myself in natural childbirth education and co-ordinated the Clarence Valley Birth Support Group for 10 years from 1985. I trained as a 'doula' (birth support person) and had the privilege of supporting many couples during this most special time in their lives. Becoming a celebrant seemed like a natural path to follow. It is an incredible honour to be involved with people during the most intimate and transitional times of life and I am always both honoured and humbled by the experience.
I have a deep respect for different cultures and creeds and I welcome the chance to work with couples from many backgrounds, creating ceremonies that reflect their individuality. For 10 years from 1991 I volunteered at Nymboida Primary School teaching multi-faith Special Religious Education focusing on the underlying principles and ideals behind all religions such as peace, tolerance, love and respect for all life. The classes I taught looked at the major world religions, indigenous spirituality from Australia and other cultures and incorporated new age and pagan ideas. Along with another teacher I also co-taught philosophy and peace studies for 5 years.
I now spend a lot of time writing ceremonies in my office at home, with an attitude of gratitude that I have such a good life.
